Now this was a brilliant event and I ran it with a colleague, Derek. The National Trust hold a Series of night run events at their properties across the UK. The closest venue to us is Wimpole Hall Farm near Royston.
We arrived for a sunset start, around 18.30. People wore head torches, waist torches, carrying torches and sporting a variety of day-glo clothing. Derek’s wife and Mike had a mooch around the estate while Derek and I embarked on what can only be described as the craziest 7km I’ve ever run.
As the light levels fell I noticed my senses switch on in a way I’ve never used them before. We ran through fields that were rutted, waterlogged, had peaks and troughs as well as hills.
Aw we ran we looked back over the field of runners to see a bright snake making its way over the landscape.
We did a sprint finish and were rewarded with a lovely goodie bag and a glow-in-the-dark medal.
