How to get over an injured toe

After the Welwyn 10k I went out for a training run. Felt fab. 3 days later my big toe started to ache. Then by the weekend it was unbearable. The joint beneath the toenail had a little alien causing pain. Couldn’t bear the bedsheets on it. 

Rested for a week with anti inflammatory drugs (stomach havoc). Then a week with nothing. So in total 3 weeks with no run. Gingerly stepped out for a gentle return run and managed a nice 5k. Foot didn’t drop off so a couple of days later repeated the activity. Still ok. (Forgetting to say I work on my feet 12.5 hours a day as well) 

Back now to proper running and toe is fine. No idea what it was but don’t want it to hurt like that again ever.
